Bad Gammon

Seth and I decided we would attempt to learn how to play Backgammon last night. We each read the "translated in Taiwan" 1960's directions that came with our board. We both threw our hands up in frustration at our complete lack of comprehension.

So, I proceeded to look up directions on the internet. There are lots of directions on the internet. I read them all. I even watch a few "how to" videos. I must be one of the dumbest people on the planet because people have been playing this game since the beginning of time and I just can't get it.

Oh, I understand far more than I did at the beginning, but that's not saying much. I can barely wrap my head around the fact that my 1 point is your 24. I hardly remember "lefty loosey, righty tighty" so what makes me think I can remember which direction each player is supposed to go around the board?
The main thing I don't get is: if you make one of my pieces get out and I have to put it on the bar, how do I get it back in? Does my dice roll correspond to actual points or to number of moves?
And I don't think I could play doubles for a while. My brain is hurting.

I really want to play. Mainly because the board set looks so cool; Like I should be drinking a fancy drink and playing under a large umbrella (and maybe wearing a fancy sun hat) by the pool. But I have so many questions. Anybody know how to play?

don't have a clue how to play, but that is a fantastic "looking" game; I agree with you there!
