My camera is broken!

I don't know what to do. The lens won't retract and it's making a funny noise. It won't take pictures either. I'm so sad I could cry.

OK...I HATE to hear this....I saw you have a Canon, right? I have/had a canon with the SAME problem and it turned out to be a lens error. After doing a lot of research and spending a LOT of time on the phone with canon, I found there's a class action lawsuit against them for this problem. Does your screen say "E18"? If not, it's still prob. the same thing. When this happened to mine, my camera was 13 months old and they wouldn't look at it for free or cover any parts since it was over a year. Good Luck, I hope you have better luck than I did, I know next time, I'm going with Nikon!!!

I'm sorry that published twice...I don't know what I did!
BTW, the noise it makes is like a beepy-grindy? :)

Elise, yes, that's the noise alright! But nothing shows up at all, the lens and screen just stay dark. Poo!

if you haven't already done so, swap the batteries with known, very strong batteries.

Oh, yes. That was the first thing I did:)
