Overheard:

Emet: Yessa, (his word for Elijah) you boke my heart.

Elijah: Ha ha, you don't even know what that means.

Emet: Yes I do. You boke my heart!

Elijah: Well, where is your heart then?

Emet: Right here in my tummy!

Countdown to the Derby

Elijah's Cubscout Pinewood Derby is this weekend, so he has been working on his car (with his father's help, of course.) Needless to say, all the boys are excited by the upcoming race. And I'm excited that they're excited.

Oh Brother, Oh Brother, Oh Brother

I'm proud to present Edison's (My oldest son's good friend and the son of my dear friend Tiffany) newest movie. This 6th grader is very talented; chemistry skills and all.

Catch Edison's previous flicks here. They're all worth watching!

The Potty Dance

This commercial is hilarious...and very relevant to where we are with our littlest. I think he needs to learn this dance so that he will quit wetting on everything.

Chaotic organization? Or organized chaos?

When I got home from my North Carolina trip several months ago, I completely cleaned my entire workspace - my table and my packaging station were perfectly organized, everything in their own homes and all the surfaces cleaned. Then I took a break. When I decided to bust everything out again and get to work, I became disheartened because I couldn't find anything! Where was the saw that always sits right on top of a pile of stuff on the table? Where did I put that collet that I only needed every once in while but couldn't do with out? My organization really messed me up. So, this time, I left everything out. For a while, it totally worked. My polishing cloth was right where I left it, in a wad under spools of wire, and all my buffing wheels were sporadically scattered where I could easily find them...
Until I took another break. I didn't work for a week. This morning I came back to my table. Where is the tape?? Oh, right, it made it's way into another part of the house because the kids needed it for a project. Where are my heavy gauge snips?? Hmmm, the last time I saw them, Seth was using them...
So, in the course of a week my chaotic organization turned into disorganization, and my family members were sneaking off with my tools!
So much for taking a break. I spent twenty minutes looking for the tape this morning and when I finally found it, I realized I had laid down the two pieces of metal that I was working with somewhere in the midst of my search for the tape. It took several more minutes to find those...and so on.
All to say...I'm really not sure if my system is working...it sure does look like a mess!

Legos

My boys love them. I step on them. They are everywhere in our house. But look what can be done with them! Go here to see more art with legos. It's truly amazing.

Create a loft

When we were little, my sister and I would turn one of our bedrooms into an "apartment" by making the top of the bed the "upstairs" and the rest of the floor "downstairs." We even had a secret room in our "attic space" by climbing to the top of the built-in bookcase in her room and snuggly fitting ourselves onto the top shelf, only to pretend it was quite roomy.
Making a room into a loft seems like it's more of an option now, with these cool set ups. Look at the whole collection here. It's inspiring - especially if you're thinking of fitting two big boys into one small room.

So pretty...

It reminds me that everything is only for a season. And today is reminding me of spring...

One set of windows down, one to go...

I said I'd do it and I did! Hurray! Our dining room has needed these panels for so long and now they are done. I hung them the same way I did the curtains in the studio (which is now Kaleb's room) but since they are canvas I felt like I was rigging sails to the wall! They really warm up the room though, so I'm glad. The next set of curtains will be for my bedroom. I'll keep you posted...

Custom Bird Ring:

I've finished up some custom orders and I think I'm going to make some curtains. I'm telling you so that I'll really do it. I've had the fabric for a long time and I keep putting it off because there are more pressing things to do. As of now, the curtains are my pressing thing to do...going to do them now...as soon as I check my email...

25 things

I was tagged to write 8 things about myself by Becoming Jane, but since I just wrote this for facebook, I reposted it here.

1.I am not a morning person.
2. I am not a night person either.
3. Catch me between the hours of 10am and 3pm and I'm totally good. Anything before or after that, you have to inject me with coffee or adrenaline to get me going. (It's really a wonder I get anything done in life.)
4. It's really a wonder that I get anything done in life, considering I have three crazy (but wonderful) boys, a crazy (but wonderful) husband, two dogs (and right now two puppies too) and a jewelry business.
5.The only sport I ever thought I was good at was skiing.
6. I hated P.E. because my face turns bright red when I exercise.
7. I really love to exercise now (at HOME)
8. Please don't come over when I'm exercising.
9. I will do pretty much anything for a back massage.
10. To get anything done I have to visualize it. I'm a visualizer.
11. When I was a kid I would (against my own sensibility) visualize jumping from the balcony and bouncing all the way down on the heads of the people in the rows below me, whenever we went on a field trip to TPAC.
12. That visualization made me afraid of heights. Not because I might fall, but because I might accidentally jump.
13. I'm a HUGE reader. Love to read. Yes.
14. I'm embarrassed to tell you how much I like superhero movies. Although they usually disappoint me.
15. Spider-man and Iron Man, however, did not disappoint.
16. With the invention of computers, I am sad to say, that I could probably go years (albeit miserable ones) without ever leaving my house. My friends have to make me leave my house.
17. Once I've left my house I am happy and forget that I ever wanted to stay home. Oh, it's so good to get out...
18. I love sweets, but ever since I turned 30, sugar gives me a terrible headache. I think it's genetic and I got it from my mom.
19. Mom, please quit giving me bad genetic things.
20. I'll probably give bad genetic things to my kids.
21. I probably already have.
22. Thank goodness for Jesus.
23. I only brush my hair, like, twice a week....or maybe less.
24. Don't worry, I brush my teeth way more often.
25. That's me on the right in the photo with my lil' sis, Annalise.
