Let's Play Dress Up

We like to dress up for Halloween, but I'm not the kind of person who normally buys costumes for the kids. Generally we make our outfits from whatever toys and gear we have lying around the house...and we use a lot of imagination. This year, Emet was Spiderman (easy, because we started collecting Spiderman stuff with Kaleb, then Elijah...) Elijah became Obi-Wan Kenobi by turning Kaleb's old Harry Potter Quidditch Robe inside out and donning a lightsaber, and Kaleb...well Kaleb was scary. Seth painted him up with face paint. Not my favorite look - but he was pleased.
I found a vintage skirt that I re-worked quite a bit to make the waist fit me (women must have had waists as thick as spines in the 50's - or else wore corsets...) and I became Donna Reed.

All His Own

Kaleb's birthday was earlier this month. Remember when I said we had something up our sleeve? Well, that something was Kaleb's own room! He went on a camping trip with the Boy Scouts the weekend of his birthday and when he came home the front studio had been transformed. We figured a pre-teen needed his own space...and we were right. His favorite thing to do is sit in his room and listen to music. Typical. But we were excited to give him this wonderful gift of "alone time."
Elijah, by default, also got his own room (for now.) He has decided to sleep in his tent from now on. Cozy.

Yay! A new (easy) soup!

I used the last bit of my garden basil that hadn't been turned into frosty, fall crispness to make this soup. Torn from the pages of Fitness magazine, it boasted quickness, great taste and health - and it didn't disappoint on any! It literally took me under twenty minutes to prepare it, and everyone in my family ate their whole bowl (some even asked for seconds.) This one is definitely going into my regular rotation.

Tagged again...twice!

If you wanted to know anymore random things about me, here's your chance because I was tagged this week by Love Retro Color and Something Just to Start. If you really don't care to find out anymore things about me (I wouldn't blame you) then take this opportunity to click on some of the links to find out more about these super cool people and their blogs.

These are the rules of the game:
1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.

2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.

3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blog.

4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

7 randoms about moi:

1. I used to sing and I performed at several bars, coffee shops and writers nights.
2. My baby blanket finally fell apart, but I kept the satin edges from it and store them in my jewelry box...just in case I need them.
3. I chew on the inside of my cheek and I think it's going to give me smoker's wrinkles.
4. I love cheese. The smellier the better.
5. I can do several difficult yoga balancing positions on my hands.
6. I played powder-puff football in college for a season.
7. I think about quitting pretty much everything I ever start, so I just push through until I stop thinking about quitting. It always works...until the next time I feel like quitting. Hey...I'm not a quitter! (this is what I tell myself...)

So, is that weird and random enough?
This time I'm tagging:
The Laundry is Never Finished

The Pretty Peacock

Lost Button Studio

Etsy Mentors

Ever thought of opening an Etsy shop? Or do you have one, but you still have a lot of questions? Well, there is a place for you to find out everything you need to know and have someone help you through it. A couple of months ago, I joined the Etsy Mentor team. The team is comprised of other Etsy sellers who have been around long enough to have become an "expert" in certain areas. Here is a list of mentors to contact for one on one answers to your questions. Click on a members shop and send them a message if you want them to mentor you.
If you are blurry about Etsy, but no specific questions come to mind, click here to visit the Sellers Helping Sellers blog. Kept up by the team members, this blog has tons of helpful posts that cover all areas of "Etsying." Good luck and go get 'em!

Bat Cave, NC

I brought my sister and my mom with me to North Carolina. We drove the mountain highways through the quaint, picturesque towns of Bat Cave, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. I've decided I want to move there.

Craft Attack

I'm leaving for Charlotte, North Carolina early Friday morning to take part in Craft Attack. I've been busy making jewelry, tagging all my pieces, getting everything I need for my booth and setting it all up in the front room of my house to make sure everything looks good. All that's left to do is clean out my van and get everything packed so it fits... then I can concentrate on Kaleb's birthday, which is also this week.
P.S. If you're going to be in the Charlotte area this weekend...stop by and say "Hi!"

An Excerpt:

"A long time ago I went to a concert with my friend Rebecca. Rebecca can sing better than anybody I've ever heard sing. I heard this folksinger was coming to town, and I thought she might like to see him because she was a singer too. The tickets were twenty bucks, which is a lot to pay if you're not on a date. Between songs, though, he told a story that helped me resolve some things about God. The story was about his friend who is a Navy SEAL. He told it like it was true, so I guess it was true, although it could have been a lie.
The folksinger said his friend was performing a covert operation, freeing hostages from a building in some dark part of the world. His friend's team flew in by helicopter, made their way to the compound and stormed into the room where the hostages had been imprisoned for months. The room, the folksinger said, was filthy and dark. The hostages were curled up in a corner, terrified. When the SEALs entered the room, they heard the gasps of the hostages. They stood at the door and called to the prisoners, telling them they were Americans. The SEALs asked the hostages to follow them, but the hostages wouldn't. They sat there on the floor and hid their eyes in fear. They were not of healthy mind and didn't believe their rescuers were really Americans.
The SEALs stood there, not knowing what to do. They couldn't possibly carry everybody out. One of the SEALs, the folksingers friend, got an idea. He put down his weapon, took off his helmet, and curled up tightly next to the other hostages, getting so close his body was touching some of theirs. He softened the look on his face and put his arms around them. He was trying to show he was one of them. None of the prison guards would ave done this. He stayed there for a little while until some of the hostages started to looked at him, finally meeting his eyes. The Navy SEAL whispered that they were Americans and were there to rescue them. Will you follow us? he said. The hero stood to his feet and one of the hostages did the same, then another, until all of them were willing to go. The story ends with all the hostages safe on an American aircraft carrier.
I never liked it when preachers said we had to follow Jesus. Sometimes they would make Him sound angry. But I liked the story the folksinger told. I liked the idea of Jesus becoming man, so that we would be able to trust Him, and I like that He healed people and loved them and cared deeply about how people were feeling."
